C-NRPP Radon Measurement Professional

 A professional who deploys and retrieves radon detectors and provides a report of the associated measurement results which are generated by a Radon Analytical Laboratory

  • Complete an Entry Level Radon Measurement Course.
    • Course options: 2-day classroom or 16 hours online.
  • Pass a C-NRPP Entry Level Radon Measurement Proctored Exam.
    • 100 questions, 2 hours.
  • Complete the CNRPP Code of Ethics Course Online.
  • Complete the CNRPP New Application Online and make the payment for the certification invoice.
    • Certification Invoice: $100 per year plus CARST Membership $75.

C-NRPP Analytical Laboratory

A laboratory/organization that  analyzes radon detection devices.

  • Radon Measurement Certification is a prerequisite.
  • Develop a Quality Assurance Plan.
  • Submit Quality Control Documents.
  • Submit a copy of the New C-NRPP Analytical Lab Application Form and the required documents. Complete the payment.
    • Certification Invoice: $75 per year +GST.

C-NRPP Radon Mitigation Professional

A professional who interprets radon test results, and determines the most effective way to reduce radon concentrations within buildings. This could include the requirement of further diagnostic testing, the design and/or installation of radon mitigation systems

  • Radon Measurement Course is a prerequisite.
  • Complete an Entry Level Radon Mitigation Course.
    • Course options: 4-5 day classroom or 24-hour online course.
  • Pass a C-NRPP Entry Level Radon Mitigation Exam.
    • 120 questions, 3 hours.
  • Complete Mentorship.
  • Complete the C-NRPP Code of Ethics Course Online.
  • Obtain Insurance.
  • Complete the C-NRPP New Application Online and make the payment for the certification invoice.
    • Certification Invoice: $100 per year plus CARST Membership.

C-NRPP Controlling Radon in New Canadian Homes (CRNCH) Installer/Inspector

A professional who specifies, adapts, implements, configures, installs, inspects and maintains radon rough-in systems, including active-ready and passive systems without fans, that meet the performance and reliability needs of homeowners in Canada by incorporating quality craftsmanship and complying with all applicable codes, standards and safety requirements.

  • Complete C-NRPP Controlling Radon in New Canadian Homes (CRNCH) course.
    • Course options: 4-6 hours classroom course or 4 hours online.
  • Pass a C-NRPP CRNCH Proctored Exam.
    • 50 questions, 1 hour.
  • Complete the CNRPP Code of Ethics Course Online.
  • Complete the CNRPP New Application Online and make the payment for the certification invoice.
    • Certification Invoice: $100 per year plus GST. Discounts applied if already measurement or mitigation certified.

Maintaining Certification

Measurement, Mitigation, CRNCH Certifications

  • Pay your fees annually
  • Complete the C-NRPP Code of Ethics Course.
  • Maintain Insurance: Required for Mitigation professionals but encouraged for all certifications.
  • Accumulate and record your C-NRPP professional practice credits – not required if only CRNCH certified
  • File your CNRPP Renewal Application before the expiration date (every 2 years)
  • Lab Renewal Application
  • Sign the Code of Ethics statement

C-NRPP Analytical Lab Certification

  • Pay your fees annually
  • File your CNRPP Renewal Application before the expiration date (every 2 years)
  • Lab Renewal Application
  • Submit appropriate quality control documents (see C-NRPP Quality Control and Quality Assurance Manual for more information)
  • Maintain quality control charts

C-NRPP Code of Ethics

C-NRPP Professionals will endeavor to:

  • Keep themselves current and informed and satisfy any continuing education requirements specific to their certification, conduct themselves in a professional manner befitting their Certified status.
  • Present their certified status to the public, and provide or show their certificate/certification number for each customer job.
  • Stay up to date with and conduct business in accordance with the protocols and quality assurance and quality control prescribed by the C-NRPP Policy Advisory Board.
  • Adhere to approved Measurement and Mitigation standards, guidance and protocols.
  • Display the C-NRPP logo as a certified professional on promotional materials; discontinue said display if no longer certified.
  • Develop proper standard operating procedures for measurements and/or mitigation including following a Quality Assurance Plan
  • Maintain continuing professional practice credits (see below)
  • Submit renewal documentation prior to expiry date.
  • Maintain proper insurance.

C-NRPP Professional Practice Credits

C-NRPP requirements for maintaining certification in radon measurement and mitigation are intended to encourage and recognize Canadian radon professional’s involvement in the radon industry’s development and growth.

The CARST conference offers an opportunity to fulfil all renewal requirements in one weekend by enrolling in CE courses. If the conference is not a viable option for you, you can still get credits by attending other CARST events.

4/20 credits must be from C-NRPP Approved Continuing Education Courses

1 credit must be from the C-NRPP Code of Ethics Courses if you have not completed it before. 

16/20 credits from two of the following categories:

Community Outreach and Radon Awareness – 1hr participation = 1 credit

  • Activities that provide radon information to the community
  • Ex. Presentation to a community group, participating in a trade show/home show/annual conference with an information booth or presentation; Lunch and Learn or Breakfast training/information sessions


Professional Development – 1hr of course = 1 credit

  • Courses or participation in educational activities
  • Ex. Any courses for professional or personal development; may include other certification courses; courses required for professional development; radon workshops; air quality workshops; lung association training, etc.


Radon Industry Participation – 1hr of participation = 1 credit

  • Activities that enhance and encourage the development of the radon industry within Canada
  • Ex. Participate on CARST committees; other radon-focused work groups or committees; or take action stakeholder groups


Hands on Practice – 1 measurement job = 1 credit; 1 mitigation job = 2 credits (limit of 10 Hands-On Credits per renewal)

  • Practical radon work that provides homeowners and building owners with the necessary radon services they require
